A Cisco Meraki Case Study
Westwind School Division, a 15–school K–12 district in Alberta with 4,500 students and 800 staff, needed a more robust core infrastructure and a unified wired/wireless solution to support heavy BYOD traffic, remote site management, and integration with Cisco Unified Communication Manager for VoIP. After meeting the Cisco Meraki team, Westwind trialed and adopted Cisco Meraki’s cloud-managed switching and wireless portfolio to simplify configuration and remote administration across dispersed sites.
Cisco Meraki deployed 137 access points and 55 switches, giving Westwind centralized visibility and control via the Meraki cloud dashboard. The solution supports over 10,000 clients and 10 TB of weekly data, 460 VoIP endpoints integrated with Cisco Unified Communication Manager, and features like CMX location analytics, time‑based port scheduling (reducing energy/costs), one‑click rogue DHCP containment, and remote cable testing. As a result, the IT team now makes district‑wide changes quickly, receives automated reports and alerts, and spends less time on routine management—while firmware updates and new features are delivered seamlessly by Cisco Meraki.
