A Cisco Meraki Case Study
Werner-von-Siemens-Gymnasium Magdeburg is a grades 5–12 STEM-focused school in Magdeburg, Germany whose curriculum and student activities depend heavily on reliable Internet access and BYOD support. Facing a lack of a simple, unified wireless platform that could interoperate with their Cisco LAN and support high-density student devices, the school turned to Cisco Meraki’s cloud-managed wireless solution (MR18 APs and the Meraki dashboard) for easier management and visibility.
Cisco Meraki deployed MR18 access points across three floors, reducing the number of APs needed while enabling seamless roaming across more than 50 classrooms, four SSIDs with custom authentication, and built-in security (Air Marshal, Layer 7 firewall, traffic shaping and access controls). As a result, teachers and students can connect reliably from anywhere in the building, coursework that depends on digital resources runs smoothly, admins gain proactive monitoring with alerts and live troubleshooting in the Meraki dashboard, and automatic firmware updates keep the network current and easier to fine‑tune.
