A Cisco Meraki Case Study

Utilizing cloud-managed technology to secure citizen data and protect priceless artifacts

Marmot Library Network, which supports 35 public, academic and school libraries and a union catalog of 1.2 million unique items, faced the dual challenge of protecting irreplaceable physical collections (including flood-prone basements) and securing guest Wi‑Fi while a six‑person IT team traveled frequently to remote locations for updates. To address these risks they turned to Cisco Meraki, deploying MR access points, MS switches, MX security/SD‑WAN appliances and MT sensors.

Using Cisco Meraki’s cloud‑managed dashboard, Marmot remotely consolidated network management and rolled out MT water‑leak sensors, MR/MS connectivity and MX security appliances; sensors and access points installed in under an hour. The Meraki solution improved guest Wi‑Fi security and visitor experience, delivered immediate SMS/email alerts for leaks to protect priceless artifacts, eliminated much travel and administrative overhead, and helped the small IT team avoid up to $1,000,000 in potential payroll costs.
