Rethinking IT infrastructure to reduce cost and carbon emissions across 70 schools

Wrexham County Borough Council needed to rethink its IT infrastructure across 70 schools to cut costs and carbon emissions while maintaining reliable connectivity for teaching. Working with Cisco Meraki, the Council also wanted a future-proof network that could support sustainability goals without disrupting school operations.

Cisco Meraki, alongside partner CAE Technology Services, implemented a managed networking and energy-monitoring approach using Meraki technology and WiserWatts. The result was a 52% reduction in overnight Wi‑Fi electricity use, an estimated annual reduction of 10 metric tons of CO2e, and potential savings of up to £22,000 in fiscal year 2023/2024.
