A Cisco Meraki Case Study
Remington College, led by CIO Chuck Farraj, needed to modernize campus technology for 10,000 students and 1,400 faculty across 20 campuses that had a mix of legacy, consumer, or no wireless and no centralized management. With a single IT staffer handling wireless, the college required a new data center, WAN and a consistent wireless LAN solution. After evaluating Aruba and HP, Remington selected Cisco Meraki for its cloud-based dashboard and ease of management, deploying Meraki MR14 APs with cloud management licenses.
Cisco Meraki implemented a phased rollout—piloting 15 APs then deploying a total of 315 MR14 APs with cloud licenses—enabling centralized management from corporate HQ without physical controllers at each campus. The deployment was fast and straightforward, eliminated the need to hire additional staff, and gave Remington robust reporting and guest-access features. The network now supports seamless roaming, transfers about 700 GB per week across sites, and is managed easily by the small IT team using the Meraki dashboard.
