A Cisco Meraki Case Study
Region 9 Education Service Center provides technical support to 38 school districts — serving 40,000 students and 8,000 staff — across Wichita Falls, Texas. Facing a geographically dispersed network, the two-person IT team needed to simplify management, distribute internet traffic, enforce firewall/content filtering with Active Directory integration, and meet CIPA requirements without adding hardware. Cisco Meraki cloud-managed MR access points, MX security appliances and MS switches were chosen to address these challenges.
Cisco Meraki deployed MR APs, MX Security Appliances and MS Switches at headquarters and MX appliances in over 25 districts, using cloud-synced configurations, AD group policies, automatic alerts, and traffic shaping to prioritize online classes and testing. The result was reliable, centrally managed connectivity across all districts, transparent bandwidth usage and efficient traffic shaping, and CIPA-compliant content filtering — supporting 40,000 students and 8,000 staff with fewer devices, less training and automatic updates.
