Case Study: Yongsan International School of Seoul achieves streamlined cloud-managed networking and fewer IT support requests with Cisco Meraki

A Cisco Meraki Case Study

Preview of the Yongsan International School of Seoul Case Study

Reducing support requests for lean school IT team with full-stack solution

Yongsan International School of Seoul (YISS), an international K–12 school in Seoul serving 1,000 students and 175 staff from 55 countries, faced a “black hole” network with limited visibility, language-barrier support and no on‑prem servers. Seeking a cloud‑managed, easy‑to‑use solution, Director of Technology Brendon McCarthy evaluated options and selected Cisco Meraki for its centralized web dashboard and in‑language support.

Cisco Meraki deployed a full Meraki stack—174 MR access points, 42 MS switches, 1 MX security appliance and Systems Manager licenses for 750 devices—enabling YISS’s three‑person IT team to pinpoint and resolve issues via the dashboard. Since the rollout, connectivity problems have effectively disappeared, support requests to IT have decreased significantly, and the lean team can make rapid, non‑disruptive changes (for example, consolidating SSIDs with VLAN group policies), with other schools in the YISS network beginning to adopt Cisco Meraki as well.
