A Cisco Meraki Case Study
Rainbow School District, covering 14,757 km² and serving about 14,500 students across 38 elementary and 10 secondary schools, was relying on consumer-grade Wi‑Fi and lacked centralized management, traffic visibility, and tools to detect rogue access points as student and teacher device use grew. Cisco Meraki (Meraki access points, the Meraki dashboard and Traffic Shaper) was evaluated to provide greater capacity, control and insight without the overhead of onsite controllers.
Cisco Meraki implemented a proof-of-concept in a single afternoon and then deployed 157 dual‑radio Meraki access points across nine high schools and the board office, achieving full radio coverage within weeks and within one year’s budget. The Meraki dashboard and Traffic Shaper delivered centralized visibility, application-based prioritization for teachers and classroom activity, faster local support by empowering school technicians, improved network performance for students and staff, and mesh functionality to cover hard-to-wire areas.
