Case Study: Government of Phuket achieves city-wide reliable public WiFi and a sustainable ad-funded model with Cisco Meraki

A Cisco Meraki Case Study

Preview of the Government of Phuket Case Study

Preparing for tourism success with advanced Wi-Fi and analytics

The Government of Phuket needed reliable, city-wide public WiFi to improve tourism services, emergency response, and transport data while addressing high-density crowds, seamless roaming, and simplified IT management. Working with CAT Telecom, they chose Cisco Meraki outdoor MR84 access points and the cloud-based Meraki dashboard to deliver high-performance 802.11ac coverage and an easy-to-manage, user-friendly network.

Cisco Meraki’s solution deployed 120 MR84 APs across the city and beaches in about five days, with cloud provisioning that eliminated extensive on-site configuration and ongoing maintenance. Paired with location-based advertising and analytics partners, Cisco Meraki enabled free, roaming WiFi that enhanced tourists’ experience, increased local business exposure, provided heat-map and client insights, and created a sustainable revenue model to maintain the Phuket SmartCity WiFi.
