A Cisco Meraki Case Study
JeffCo Public Schools, a large Colorado district with 155 schools and about 80,000 students, needed to pivot rapidly to remote work and hybrid learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The district faced a critical networking challenge: staff and teachers required VPN access to district data centers but the existing infrastructure only supported about 200 concurrent VPN users. JeffCo turned to Cisco Meraki (already deployed across the district with 7,000+ MR access points) for a rapid solution.
Working with Cisco Meraki, JeffCo deployed a Meraki MX to expand VPN capacity and Meraki Z3 devices to enable secure remote help-desk support, while leveraging the cloud-managed Meraki dashboard to perform critical upgrades without exposing staff. The MX scaled VPN access from roughly 200 to 5,000 connections within hours, the Z3s kept support services operational from home, and the Meraki network underpinned a smooth transition to hybrid instruction—helping the district maintain continuity for staff and students.
