A Cisco Meraki Case Study
PITT OHIO, a 39-year-old logistics company with over 3,100 employees and roughly $700 million in annual revenue, needed a scalable, easy-to-manage network that provided deep analytics and visibility without third-party tools. With just four network engineers supporting operations across 13 states, the team sought quick deployments, automatic firmware and security updates, and technology that could reduce costs and even help generate revenue. They evaluated and then deployed Cisco Meraki—starting with a trial access point—and rolled out Meraki MR32, MR33 and MR72 access points plus MX100 security appliances at headquarters and 22 remote sites.
Cisco Meraki’s cloud-managed wireless and security appliances, plus the Meraki dashboard analytics, enabled all 23 sites to be deployed within a month, eliminated the need to include wireless in disaster-recovery plans (controller in the cloud), and automated updates. PITT OHIO attributes an additional $8.7 million in 2016 and $9.0 million in 2017 (a total of $17.7 million over two years) to the Meraki deployment, while also significantly reducing network deployment time, improving performance at subsidiaries like US Cargo and Cioppino, and gaining visibility for future projects such as MV security cameras and digital signage.
