A Cisco Meraki Case Study
Oswestry School, an independent co-educational day and boarding school, needed to support a BYOD initiative but was hampered by an ageing, ad hoc wireless network and only one IT technician to manage it. Seeking an easy-to-manage, cost-effective cloud solution, the school selected Cisco Meraki for its cloud-based networking architecture and web dashboard to replace the old consumer-grade APs.
Cisco Meraki deployed 79 cloud-managed APs and 19 cloud-managed switches, configured three SSIDs (students, staff, guests) with WPA2, a custom splash page and per-device bandwidth limits, and extended coverage across the 50-acre campus including outdoor sports fields. The install took about a week, now supports around 400 concurrent clients with no dropouts, simplified management for a single technician, eliminated the need for expensive controllers, and enabled the school’s planned classroom BYOD rollout and Google Apps adoption.
