A Cisco Meraki Case Study
Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC), which serves roughly 20,000 students across 13 campuses, faced an aging controller-based wireless infrastructure that was hard to maintain, struggled with a 69% rise in peak Wi‑Fi connections, and lacked easy guest self-service. With a centralized IT team needing a remotely managed, future-proof solution, NSCC selected Cisco Meraki and its MR42 and MR52 access points to deliver high-density, cloud-managed Wi‑Fi.
Cisco Meraki deployed over 750 APs across the 13 campuses in eight months, using the Meraki dashboard to preconfigure devices and simplify installation. The rollout created four secure SSIDs (Eduroam, NSCC Guest with SMS authentication and bandwidth limits, NSCC 180 for 2,000+ college devices, and an IoT SSID), enabled remote firmware updates, improved uptime and troubleshooting via Meraki’s analytics and Wireless Health, and produced measurable wins—750+ APs installed, visibility that revealed 70% of students use iPhones, and a noticeable drop in network complaints since the Cisco Meraki deployment.
