Case Study: MallorcaWiFi achieves 95% increase in smartphone engagement with Cisco Meraki

A Cisco Meraki Case Study

Preview of the MallorcaWiFi Case Study

Implementation of the Cisco Meraki network increases smartphone engagement by 95%

MallorcaWiFi partnered with the City of Palma de Mallorca to tackle a major visitor pain point: high mobile roaming charges that kept tourists offline and disconnected from local events and services. To deliver free, scalable public Wi‑Fi across Playa de Palma, MallorcaWiFi chose the Cisco Meraki cloud networking solution (outdoor and indoor Meraki APs and the Meraki dashboard) to provide centralized management, BYOD guest access, and a platform for tourism apps and local advertising.

Using Cisco Meraki, MallorcaWiFi deployed Meraki APs across a 5 km stretch of beach in three months (phase one of a >100 AP rollout), implemented segmented SSIDs, custom splash pages and Facebook login, per‑client bandwidth limits, Layer 7 traffic controls, RF optimization and Air Marshal security — all managed from the Meraki dashboard by a two‑technician team. The results: daily connections jumped from about 3,500 (1.5 TB) to more than 25,000 unique users, smartphone engagement rose 95%, and the free service — funded by local advertising — boosted tourism visibility, public safety coordination and local business revenue.
