Getting Ahead of Climate Control Challenges with Environmental Monitoring

Tarbell Management Group, a family‑owned operator of convenience stores, restaurants, hotels and gas stations in Akwesasne, NY, was battling temperature and moisture problems in makeshift network closets that threatened network uptime and customer service. To solve this, Tarbell worked with Cisco Meraki and evaluated Meraki’s MT sensors and dashboard to get remote, centralized environmental monitoring across its ten locations.

Cisco Meraki deployed MT temperature, humidity and probe sensors (with an MV smart camera as a gateway) integrated into the Meraki dashboard, all set up in under 30 minutes. The solution sent an 80°F alert that helped avert a network outage and mitigate up to $130,000 in potential hardware loss; MT probes cut manual fridge/freezer checks (saving up to 1,000 working hours per year) and helped prevent about $15,000 in perishables loss, improving uptime and operational efficiency.
