A Cisco Meraki Case Study
Albany State University faced persistent high‑density wireless and security challenges across busy student centers, residence halls, athletic venues and campus events. To future‑proof its network and simplify operations, ASU turned to Cisco Meraki—piloting and then deploying cloud‑managed Meraki MR access points (including MR30H and Wi‑Fi 6 MR55 models) and Meraki MV smart cameras to replace a difficult controller‑based WLAN and an aging DVR camera system.
Cisco Meraki’s cloud dashboard allowed ASU to pre‑configure and rapidly scale—deploying 600 APs campus‑wide, using network tags for automatic configuration, and adding MR55 Wi‑Fi 6 in high‑density areas—resulting in noticeably faster, more reliable student connections, a spike in dorm Wi‑Fi usage, and simpler troubleshooting with RF and latency tools. Meraki MV cameras removed the need for servers with on‑camera storage, enabled Motion Search, heat maps and granular access for campus safety, and freed the Infrastructure team to focus on improving student experiences rather than routine maintenance.
