Case Study: Cameron County achieves countywide Wi‑Fi coverage and enhanced security with Cisco Meraki

A Cisco Meraki Case Study

Preview of the Cameron County Case Study

Expanding WiFi coverage and security to support country government

Cameron County, Texas needed to expand wireless coverage and improve security across county buildings to support staff, public access, and a rising number of devices. They partnered with Cisco Meraki, choosing Meraki Wireless LAN products (MR access points) and MV security cameras managed via the cloud-based Meraki dashboard.

Cisco Meraki deployed MR access points in locations such as the County Jail and Commissioner’s Court and is rolling out APs for a new six‑floor building to support about 400 users, plus Meraki MV cameras for enhanced safety. Using Meraki’s dashboard, the IT team implemented guest splash pages, traffic shaping, scheduled SSIDs, firewall rules and a private staff network, and can now troubleshoot and remediate issues remotely (for example, rebooting a downed AP from the dashboard). The result: wireless throughout county facilities, improved visibility and security, faster issue resolution, and scalable support for a county of over 1,600 people.
