Enhancing the customer experience with custom web app and nationwide in-store Wi-Fi

Design Within Reach, a premier furniture retailer with 47 studios nationwide, faced the challenge of having no wireless networking at headquarters, stores, or its warehouse while wanting to increase staff mobility and give tech‑savvy customers in‑store access to the DWR website and the new MyDeco web app. To solve this, Design Within Reach selected Cisco Meraki’s cloud‑managed Wireless LAN (Meraki access points and dashboard) to deliver secure, easy‑to‑manage Wi‑Fi across its retail footprint.

Cisco Meraki deployed cloud‑managed APs and a hub‑and‑spoke architecture linking HQ, 47 stores, and the warehouse, with built‑in stateful firewall, WPA2‑Enterprise, guest splash pages, and AD integration to maintain PCI compliance. The result: all 47 studios plus HQ and warehouse were online in less than a month without onsite IT or contractors, the wireless now supports warehouse scan guns and multiple SSIDs for corporate and guest use, and in‑store Wi‑Fi combined with the MyDeco app has increased customer engagement and dwell time—driving larger purchases.
