Case Study: Boulder Valley School District achieves a future-proof 1:1 and BYOD network with Cisco Meraki

A Cisco Meraki Case Study

Preview of the Boulder Valley School District Case Study

Enabling the move to the cloud with a new K-12 network

Boulder Valley School District (BVSD), serving 30,000 students and 4,000 staff across 56 schools, needed a modern, high‑capacity network to support districtwide 1:1 and BYOD programs and rising bandwidth demands. After an E‑rate–funded RFP process, BVSD selected Cisco Meraki and planned to deploy Meraki MR access points (APs) and MS switches to replace aging wired and wireless infrastructure.

Cisco Meraki implemented a staged rollout—flipping one to two schools per weekend—deploying APs sized for about 60 clients each, redundant switching to two sites, two SSIDs (BVSD and guest), and a separate VLAN for maintenance devices. Using the Meraki dashboard and 24/7 Cisco Meraki support, BVSD now has a reliable, future‑proof network across 56 schools that supports 30,000 students, reduces day‑to‑day troubleshooting, and freed IT staff to pursue cloud and security projects (VoIP, DaaS, learning apps) that directly improve learning.
