Case Study: Saracen Mineral Holdings achieves secure, remotely managed multi-site mining networks with Cisco Meraki

A Cisco Meraki Case Study

Preview of the Saracen Mineral Holdings Case Study

Enabling remote network management for multi-site mining operation

Saracen Mineral Holdings, an Australian gold mining company with five sites (including Carosue Dam and Thunderbox), needed reliable internet for contractor housing across four sites while being supported by a two-person IT team based in Perth. They chose Cisco Meraki—using MR wireless access points, MS switches, and MX Security/SD‑WAN appliances—to provide an easy-to-deploy, remotely manageable network that meets contractors’ expectations for streaming, email, and social connectivity.

Cisco Meraki deployed 50 MR APs, 10 MS switches and 6 MX appliances across three housing areas, configured two SSIDs with content filtering and per-client bandwidth limits, and enabled dashboard alerts and live troubleshooting tools. The Meraki solution lets the IT team resolve issues remotely (including switch cable tests), has shown most clients connected 6+ hours and returning daily, reduced on-site troubleshooting, and will be rolled out to future sites.
