Case Study: Wilderness School achieves reliable, high-speed remote campsite connectivity with Cisco Meraki

A Cisco Meraki Case Study

Preview of the Wilderness School Case Study

Enabling Adventurous Learning Through A Cellular-Powered Remote Network

Wilderness School, a top-ranked girls' school in South Australia with about 880 students, needed reliable internet at its remote Salt Creek campsite 200 km from campus to support its three-week "Realize" program. To solve this, they deployed Cisco Meraki technology — notably the new Cellular Gateway (MG) alongside Meraki MR access points and MX security appliances — to provide a dependable off‑campus network.

Cisco Meraki’s MG was installed in under 25 minutes, tuned via the Meraki dashboard for optimal cellular reception, and delivered consistent speeds up to 300 Mbps, vastly outperforming prior satellite and 4G dongle attempts. As a result, Wilderness School unified campus and campsite networks, managed the remote site from campus, prioritized critical applications over the MG while routing nonessential traffic to satellite, and restored a seamless, reliable learning experience.
