A Cisco Meraki Case Study
Mosaic, a non‑profit serving more than 3,500 people with intellectual disabilities and employing 5,000+ staff across 38 agencies in 11 states, needed a secure, HIPAA‑compliant WAN and reliable wireless for a highly mobile workforce. With a small IT team and inconsistent, off‑the‑shelf wireless at remote sites, Mosaic sought an affordable alternative to MPLS. They turned to Cisco Meraki for cloud‑managed security, switching, and wireless (MX security appliances and Meraki access points) to centralize and secure connectivity.
Cisco Meraki deployed a distributed solution of over 300 Meraki 802.11n APs, 40 Meraki MX gateways (site‑to‑site VPN), and later 70 MR18 APs and Meraki switches to support VoIP and dense device use. The Meraki cloud dashboard enabled one‑click VPN provisioning, 802.1X/RADIUS authentication for HIPAA‑compliant EHR access, automated firmware updates, and proactive troubleshooting—dramatically improving wireless reliability, print performance (addressing the 75% of prior helpdesk printing issues), and overall network visibility while avoiding the cost of MPLS.
