A Cisco Meraki Case Study
Greater Wichita YMCA, a large nonprofit with nearly 1,500 staff operating across 15 locations and roughly 1.4 million sq ft, faced challenges securing massive facilities with legacy DVRs, many cameras, and time‑consuming video retrieval. To modernize operations and improve coverage, the Y deployed Cisco Meraki MV smart cameras along with MT sensors and MG wireless infrastructure for cloud‑managed video and sensing.
Cisco Meraki’s solution centralized management and improved image quality so fewer cameras were needed (three cameras replaced eight in one gym), expanded monitoring (Kids’ Zone live streams to parent monitors), and delivered critical alerts—Meraki temperature sensors helped avert an estimated $500,000 in potential data‑center damage. The Meraki platform simplified access to video across all sites, supports up to 30,000 wireless devices weekly, and enabled the Y’s small IT team to run lean while boosting security and operations.
