Creating India's first paperless hospital through public-private partnership

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Medical Sciences & Research is a new 1,500‑bedded multi‑specialty government hospital and medical college that set out to become India’s first paperless government hospital. Facing an unprecedented scale (18 levels, 22 departments, student hostels) the institute needed a high‑performance, HIPAA‑compliant wireless LAN to support high‑density Wi‑Fi, secure BYOD and guest isolation, prioritized bandwidth for large medical images, protection from rogue SSIDs, and a rapid deployment ahead of its inauguration. Cisco Meraki’s Meraki wireless LAN solution was chosen to meet these challenges.

Cisco Meraki deployed a cloud‑managed network with over 500 Meraki access points and a single Meraki dashboard for centralized visibility, seamless roaming, granular traffic shaping and device management. The solution enabled fully paperless workflows, prioritized EMR and MRI traffic, secure isolated guest Wi‑Fi for HIPAA compliance, improved high‑density performance and faster decision‑making for staff, while reducing operational overhead and providing future‑ready scalability across the entire campus.
