City of New Haven - Customer Case Study

The City of New Haven, serving about 130,000 residents and supporting roughly 1,600 government employees across 55 sites, faced aging unmanaged switches, no wireless, and a three-person network team unable to keep hardware updated. They chose Cisco Meraki to modernize the network, deploying MS320 switches, Meraki MR access points, Z1/Z3 teleworker gateways, an MX100, and Systems Manager for unified device management.

Using the Cisco Meraki cloud dashboard, the team deployed switches in two weeks (with 30 switches reported up and running within an hour), remotely scheduled firmware updates, provisioned Wi‑Fi with segmented SSIDs, enabled secure teleworker VPNs, and managed mobile devices (including remote wipe). The result was reliable connectivity and secure remote access for 1,600 employees across 55 sites, faster fault detection and remediation before users notice, fewer site visits and support requests, and significant time savings for the small IT team.
