A Cisco Meraki Case Study
Cirencester College, a Beacon-status sixth-form serving around 1,800 students and staff across a 14‑acre campus, struggled with incomplete, low‑density wireless after an initial Netgear deployment. The college evaluated alternatives and selected Cisco Meraki MR (cloud‑managed wireless LAN) after testing Meraki’s dashboard, Layer‑7 visibility and trial APs that handled high client density without performance degradation.
Working with reseller The MJC Group, Cisco Meraki provided a three‑phase rollout (30‑AP pilot then ~70 more), with 100+ Meraki APs installed and operational within two weeks using cloud provisioning and included technical support. The deployment delivered campus‑wide, reliable WiFi for students and staff, AD‑based splash‑page authentication, separate SSIDs (hidden for college devices), LAN and peer‑to‑peer restrictions, and faster turn‑up for future buildings — and Cirencester now plans to extend Cisco Meraki Systems Manager MDM to manage ~700 college laptops and additional tablets.
