A Cisco Meraki Case Study
Bunbury Catholic College, a co-educational year 7–12 school across two campuses in Western Australia with 1,400 students and 200 staff, needed a more reliable, visible and easy-to-manage network to support a 1:1 laptop rollout and broader digital learning. Before adopting Cisco Meraki, the lean IT team of five — only two actively managing the network — was stuck on a CLI-based infrastructure with poor visibility and time-consuming, unscheduled firmware updates.
Cisco Meraki delivered a cloud-managed stack (MR34 wireless APs, MX400 Security Appliances with site-to-site VPN, MS420 aggregation and edge switches, plus Systems Manager) managed from the Meraki dashboard. The solution provided instant network visibility and alerts, automatic VLAN/RADIUS placement, granular firewall and WAN monitoring, and simplified configuration so junior staff can handle tasks; as a result Meraki now supports hundreds of annual device rollouts, wireless classroom connectivity, and campus growth while being maintained by just two network admins.
