Peterborough Utilities Group, an integrated water and electricity distributor in Ontario and a leading metering services provider, needed better visibility and control across its dispersed distribution network to improve energy efficiency and manage remote assets. The utility faced the challenge of monitoring smart switches, relays and revenue meters at multiple sites while keeping connectivity and data costs under control.

Partnering with Cisco Jasper, Peterborough deployed the Control Center platform and built SCADA and revenue-meterming applications to collect frequent device data and remotely manage devices from a central Control Center. The solution enabled flexible per-device rate plans (handling data from ~500 KB to 15 GB), real-time troubleshooting, 24/7 control, significant cost savings (reported ROI roughly tenfold), and plans to scale to 125 connected units and expand IoT use across the business.
