A Cisco HyperFlex Case Study
Bryant University, a New England higher-education institution with about 3,600 students, needed a way to deliver SAS classroom applications without forcing students to drop off laptops or overburden IT. After a successful virtual desktop pilot on existing Cisco UCS servers, Bryant evaluated platforms and selected Cisco HyperFlex to host virtual desktops for labs and library kiosks.
Using Cisco HyperFlex to deliver virtual desktops on thin clients, Bryant deployed 60 seats and cut lab desktop costs by 87% (60 thin clients cost less than eight traditional desktops), dramatically reduced helpdesk volume, and consolidated VDI into a single rack unit. Performance and user satisfaction improved, IT can clone desktops in seconds and respond to requests any time, and the university plans to expand more virtual desktops and applications on Cisco HyperFlex.
