Pulp and Paper Manufacturer Puts Data to Work with Ignition and MQTT

A large pulp and paper manufacturer faced the challenge of modernizing outdated SCADA systems across over 50 plants to improve data mobility, standardization, and utilization. They needed a scalable solution to unify siloed operational data and bridge it to cloud and enterprise systems for analytics. To achieve this, they partnered with Cirrus Link and implemented a solution using the Ignition SCADA platform with Cirrus Link's MQTT modules.

Cirrus Link's solution established a hub-and-spoke architecture using MQTT and Sparkplug to efficiently transmit over 20,000 tag change events per second per plant to central systems like OSI PI and AWS. This provided the manufacturer with the data standardization and mobility needed for advanced analytics and corporate reporting. The rollout was a success, leading to scalable data insights and business improvements across all facilities at a reasonable cost.
