Energy Company Maximizing MQTT for Control and Efficient Image Data Transfer

A multinational energy corporation needed a modern solution to monitor over 150 remote pipeline facilities. The customer’s legacy SCADA systems could not provide the necessary visibility, and unreliable network connections at the remote sites created bandwidth challenges for transferring operational data and images. They sought an OT-first solution from Cirrus Link to improve maintenance and safety by gaining real-time insights into site events.

Cirrus Link designed and implemented MQTT Modules for the customer's Ignition SCADA platform. This solution efficiently and securely transferred both real-time OT data and high volumes of image files over constrained networks to Azure IoT. The results were significant, with the system capturing and sharing images from all sites using much less bandwidth. This provided real-time visibility, reduced the need for technicians to be dispatched, and is expected to lead to major operational cost savings.
