Case Study: Poplog achieves faster, more reliable open-source development with CircleCI

A CircleCI Case Study

Resurrecting outdated software with CircleCI

Poplog, an open-source software development environment created in the 1970s, was being revived by Stephen Leach and Will Price, but the project was hard to maintain because they worked on it in spare time. The team needed a way to keep updates and testing moving without frequent mistakes or lengthy setup, and they turned to CircleCI for CI/CD support.

With CircleCI, Poplog implemented an automated build and test pipeline that could handle its complex workflow, including container use, disabled address randomization, and virtual machines. CircleCI also helped force documentation of the build process, making the project more sustainable. The result was faster, more reliable development with fewer errors between work sessions, and a setup Leach described as straightforward enough to recommend by name.
