LINE saves on tool costs in a dev-friendly environment

LINE Corporation, known for its messaging app and a broad portfolio of digital services, was running more than 4,500 to 6,000 builds per day with over 2,000 developers. Using Jenkins had become costly and cumbersome, with administrators managing hundreds of plug-ins, OS-dependent libraries, and frequent upgrade requests. LINE needed a more developer-friendly CI/CD environment that would reduce management overhead and improve security.

CircleCI helped LINE shift much of that burden away from administrators by letting developers use Docker containers and YAML-based configuration to build clean, isolated environments with fewer plug-in dependencies. With CircleCI, engineers could troubleshoot via SSH and inherit GitHub Enterprise privileges, improving self-service and onboarding. The result was lower tool-management and training costs, fewer CI-related problems, and higher productivity for both developers and administrators.
