Linea, a zkEVM Layer-2 blockchain built by Consensys, faced limitations to its institutional and ecosystem growth by relying on a bridged version of USDC. While this bridged USDC, aligned with Circle's Bridged USDC Standard, helped bootstrap initial activity, it prevented direct minting and redemption with Circle, suppressed liquidity, and created user friction on exchanges and ramps.

Circle executed a seamless, in-place upgrade, converting all existing bridged USDC to native USDC on the Linea network without requiring any user migration or developer refactoring. This solution, which also included deploying CCTP V2 for cross-chain transfers, immediately unlocked $21 million in USDC value and deepened liquidity. The upgrade attracted institutional capital via Circle Mint, enabled tighter trading spreads, and improved the user experience, establishing a definitive model for future blockchain transitions.
