St Mary’s Hospice of Furness, a 9‑bed specialist palliative care provider serving South Cumbria with 120 staff, 150 volunteers and seven shops, was hampered by manual HR processes: records kept on multiple spreadsheets, outsourced payroll, and the need to support highly variable shift patterns. The hospice needed automation, reliable management information for the CQC, transparent dashboards for its HR committee, employee self‑service, and efficient absence and payroll management.
CIPHR’s SaaS solution was implemented with a dedicated project manager and on‑site training, delivering configurable working patterns, employee self‑service, extensive reporting and dashboards, and integration with PBS payroll. The result: payroll cycle time fell from around five days to less than one, BACS and payroll journals are automated, spreadsheets and paper processes were eliminated, absence monitoring improved (Bradford Factor reporting), CQC requests can be fulfilled quickly, and staff and managers report significant time and cost savings with positive adoption across the organisation.
