Brown University, working on the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST), needed to manage a large-scale medical record abstraction effort across thousands of study participants and multiple healthcare providers nationwide. To support this complex research initiative, Brown University engaged Ciox Health to help coordinate the abstraction and analysis of medical record data for repeated reporting intervals over the course of the long-running study.

Ciox Health built a specialized team and implemented end-to-end abstraction, quality control, procurement, coding, and reporting processes for the trial. Working with Brown University and ACRIN, Ciox Health helped define data collection guidelines, establish policies and procedures, and complete more than 40,000 abstracts representing 18,000 intervals, finishing the project on time and within federally funded budgets.
