Stena Line, a major ferry operator, needed to reduce its CO2 emissions by 5% but lacked a unified system for high-quality weather data across its fleet, which impacted fuel efficiency. The company partnered with vendor Ciklum to address this challenge.

Ciklum developed a cloud-based .NET/F# solution featuring an Azure API and a web application that consolidated multiple weather data sources. This system provided real-time forecasts to optimize engine power, resulting in annual fuel savings of 5%, equivalent to 23,000 tonnes of fuel and 70,000 tonnes of CO2. The solution also featured efficient data transmission that saved on satellite connection costs and was delivered with a quick time-to-market and a low bug ratio.
