Tier 1 Carrier Modernizes International Network with Ciena to Deliver Capacity on Demand, Reduce OPEX, and Deliver New Services to Market Faster

Tier 1 Carrier Modernizes International Network Company, a European tier-1 carrier, needed to modernize a legacy SDH-based international network that was costly to run, hard to scale, and slow to support new services. The carrier faced capacity limits in its own data centers, high leased-facility costs across Europe, and long lead times for launching new offerings. Ciena provided network modernization services to help plan and migrate the environment.

Ciena redesigned and deployed a programmable Ethernet aggregation network using the 6500 Packet-Optical Platform to replace end-of-life infrastructure and migrate legacy services with no downtime. The result was higher capacity, reduced equipment and hosting footprint, lower real estate/power/cooling and management OPEX, and faster service provisioning—from months to minutes. Ciena also simplified OSS integration through APIs and improved real-time capacity planning with network telemetry.
