REANNZ Offers Reliable Connectivity for Data-Intensive Scientific Research and Education via One NZ network

The Research Education Advanced Network of New Zealand (REANNZ) needed to futureproof its data-intensive network to support scientific collaboration and handle surging bandwidth demands with greater resiliency. To meet this challenge, they selected One NZ as their infrastructure partner, who leverages Ciena's technology, including the 6500 Platform powered by WaveLogic 5 Extreme.

The solution implemented by Ciena involved migrating REANNZ to a flexible grid network architecture. This upgrade, using Ciena's WL5e coherent technology, provided significant capacity improvements, enhanced optical spectrum efficiency, and reduced cost-per-bit. The deployment made the network more resilient to issues like severe weather, allowing for rapid rerouting of capacity without affecting operations, and provided REANNZ with a sustainable, scalable path forward.
