OPTK Networks, a regional fiber carrier in the Midwest, needed to modernize its optical transport network, which was limited to 100Gbps. The company aimed to integrate its technologies onto a unified platform to improve operational efficiency, deliver services at speeds exceeding 400Gbps with low latency, and minimize manual provisioning. To address this challenge, OPTK Networks chose to partner with Ciena.

Ciena implemented its 6500 packet-optical platform equipped with WaveLogic 5 Extreme and WaveLogic Ai coherent optics along OPTK Networks' long-haul route. The vendor also provided its Manage, Control and Plan (MCP) domain controller for centralized network control. This Ciena solution enabled OPTK Networks to dynamically scale its network to meet customer demand and provided real-time intelligence for proactive issue resolution, streamlining the introduction of new services.
