Peninsula Fiber Network (PFN), a leading fiber-optic provider and carrier's carrier in the Midwest, was faced with intensifying demand for bandwidth and a need for greater reliability and control of its network routes. To modernize its infrastructure, it sought an ultra-reliable, high-capacity, and future-ready network solution. PFN chose to partner with Ciena to deploy its Coherent Routing technology.

Ciena implemented a solution leveraging its 3928 and 8110/8114 Coherent Aggregation Routers, WaveLogic 5 Nano optics, and a 6500 ROADM optical layer. This was managed by Ciena’s Manage, Control and Plan (MCP) domain controller for unified, automated operations. The deployment allows PFN to efficiently scale to meet growing bandwidth demands at a lower cost per bit while ensuring absolute stability and unparalleled uptime for its mission-critical Next Generation 911 services.
