Ciena worked with Nation Largest Electricity Company, one of the nation’s largest electricity generators and transmission providers, to replace aging SONET infrastructure that was reaching end of life and becoming harder to support. The utility needed a more scalable, secure, and easier-to-manage network to carry legacy teleprotection and SCADA traffic while also supporting new services like video surveillance, smart meters, and substation automation across a vast service territory.

Ciena implemented a Carrier Ethernet solution built around the Ciena 3932 Service Delivery Switch and G.8032 protection technology. The new network reduced costs and staffing demands through automation and remote management, improved security and visibility, and delivered flexible bandwidth scaling up to 10 Gb/s and beyond, helping the utility modernize its communications infrastructure for future growth.
