Micrologic Rolls Out Network in West Virginia Using Ciena Optical and PON Broadband Solutions

Micrologic, a local internet service provider in West Virginia, faced the challenge of providing high-speed connectivity in a state with difficult mountainous terrain and ranked among the least connected in the U.S. With support from state grants, Micrologic turned to Ciena for a solution to build a new fiber broadband network to serve nearly 4,000 unserved locations.

Ciena's solution utilized its optical and PON broadband technologies, specifically the 6500 Packet-Optical Platform, XGS-PON micro-OLTs, and 3801 ONUs. This deployment allows Micrologic to offer a broader, more dynamic scope of reliable, high-speed internet service. The network rollout began in August 2024 and is expected to be fully completed in 2025, significantly bridging the digital divide for residents in Randolph County.
