Kendall County builds broadband for 3,100 homes with Ciena

Kendall County, a rapidly growing region near Chicago, faced a significant digital divide, with over 3,100 homes lacking access to dependable, high-speed internet. To bridge this connectivity gap and foster economic development, the county partnered with vendor Ciena and Pivot-Tech Development to build a new broadband network from the ground up.

The solution implemented by Ciena included its comprehensive broadband networking hardware, such as the 3801 XGS-PON ONU and 8100 series routers, along with the Navigator Network Control Suite software and supporting services. This scalable and open solution allows for cost-effective service delivery and easier future capacity upgrades. The new network, slated to go live in 2025, is expected to significantly upgrade the quality of life for residents, empower local businesses and educators, and bolster emergency communications across the community.
