Iliad brings first 800G to France and Italy

Iliad, an innovative telco serving 43 million subscribers, faced the challenge of supporting growing bandwidth demands for new services while reducing costs and its environmental impact. To address this, they partnered with vendor Ciena to enhance their network infrastructure.

Ciena implemented its Waveserver 5 platform powered by WaveLogic 5 Extreme coherent optics. This solution provided Iliad with the first 800G high-capacity connectivity in France and Italy, increasing data throughput per wavelength by 4-8 times and fiber capacity by 75-160%. The results for Iliad included a massive reduction in cost per bit, equipment footprint, and energy consumption, enabling them to offer new 5G and cloud services more sustainably.
