A Ciena Case Study

Preview of the Marcatel Case Study

How Marcatel Achieved Mexico’s First MEF 3.0 CE Certification with Ciena

Marcatel, a telecommunications carrier in Mexico, needed to modernize its legacy network to keep up with rising demand for bandwidth-heavy services such as video conferencing, streaming, and telehealth. The company wanted to improve capacity, reliability, latency, and energy efficiency while avoiding traffic disruption during migration, and it turned to Ciena and its Packet Networking portfolio to support the transition to an Adaptive Network.

Ciena implemented a tailored packet networking solution using platforms such as the 3932 Service Delivery Switch and the MEF 3.0-compliant 5170 Platform to support multiservice traffic, improve bandwidth efficiency, and scale connectivity at the edge. As a result, Marcatel became Mexico’s first MEF 3.0 Carrier Ethernet certified carrier, with better network performance, ultra-low latency, increased reliability and capacity, simpler maintenance, and lower operational expenses.
