How Ciena is helping Openreach revolutionize connectivity services for UK carriers

Openreach, the UK’s leading digital network provider and a division of BT, needed to expand fibre broadband capacity and deliver more agile, resilient connectivity as demand surged during the Covid-19 pandemic. To support its goal of reaching 25 million premises with FTTP by 2026, Openreach worked with Ciena and used its networking and optical technology to strengthen its national access network.

Ciena implemented Routing and Switching products, WaveLogic Ai coherent optical technology, and Managed Services, along with the OSEA Filter Connect Lite hub-and-spoke solution. The results included a fourfold increase in available fibre network capacity and the ability to scale connections in 100G increments, helping Openreach deliver faster service, improve network performance, and better meet growing bandwidth demands.
