Diamond State Networks boosts middle mile connectivity with Ciena’s coherent optics

Diamond State Networks, a wholesale broadband provider in Arkansas, faced the challenge of poor internet connectivity across the state, which ranked 49th in the U.S. for coverage and speed. To economically build a new statewide middle-mile fiber network and connect rural communities, they partnered with Ciena and leveraged its WaveLogic 5 Extreme coherent optics.

Ciena's solution involved deploying its WL5e optics on a 6500 ROADM photonic layer, managed by the Navigator Network Control Suite. This provided a scalable and resilient mesh network capable of 800Gb/s wavelengths. The implementation allows Diamond State to quickly adapt to service demands, ensures redundancy, and provides tools for real-time network monitoring. This enables Diamond State's members to deliver fast, reliable, and affordable internet access, significantly impacting the state's economy and its citizens' lives.
