Clackamas County to launch new municipal residential broadband network with Ciena

Clackamas County, a populous county in the Oregon metropolitan area, faced a significant digital divide. Many of its rural residents were either unserved or relied on slow, outdated DSL internet that could not support modern bandwidth-intensive activities. To address this challenge, the county partnered with Ciena to build a new municipal residential broadband network.

Ciena implemented a scalable and cost-effective 'core to door' solution for the county's FTTH buildout. The vendor's solution included the 5164 Router with WaveLogic 5 Nano pluggables, XGS-PON technology, and the MCP domain controller. With this new open access network, Clackamas County is now well on its way to achieving its goal of providing high-speed broadband to approximately 2,500 homes, future-proofing its community's connectivity.
