Bluegrass Network turns up 800Gb/s network in Kentucky with Ciena

Bluegrass Network, a telecommunications company serving central Kentucky, sought to modernize its optical network to increase its middle-mile presence and meet growing bandwidth demand. The company turned to Ciena for a coherent optical solution to create a new high-capacity connectivity superhighway throughout the region.

By implementing Ciena's WaveLogic 5 Extreme, 6500 ROADM, and Navigator Network Control Suite solutions, Bluegrass successfully deployed an 800Gb/s network. The results for the customer include increased capacity to 33.6Tb/s, the ability to offer Ethernet services from 10Mb/s to 400GE, and improved reliability for rural communities. Ciena's solution also helped reduce energy consumption and space requirements while providing a flexible and manageable network infrastructure.
